Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the quantity of axial displacement of two different types of abutment assembled to internal tapered implants after cyclic loading.

Materials and Methods: Implants and abutments produced by Warantec company were used in the study. Non-octagonal Top abutment¢ç (1-piece group) and octagonal Top abutment¢ç (2-piece group) were assembled to 7 degree tapered internal connection implants (Inplant¢ç), respectively. For each group, five implant-abutment assemblies were tested. All abutments of each group were connected by the recommended tightening torque of 30 Ncm using a digital torque gauge. After 10 minutes, each assembly were re-tightened and mounted in 858 Bionix II testing machine (MTS). The testing machine delivered cyclic loading force of 150 N, at 14 Hz for 1,000,000 cycles. Quantity of axial displacement was calculated by comparing the total length of the each sample before and after cyclic loading. Removal torque values (RTVs) were measured with the digital torque gauge. The mean axial displacement was statistically analyzed (Wilcoxon rank-sum test).

Results: The mean axial displacement after one million cycles were 14¡¾17 ¥ìm in the 1-piece group and 46¡¾36 ¥ìm in the 2-piece group, but the differences were not significant. It was calculated that the mean RTV after cyclic loading were 46.7¡¾16 Ncm in the 1-piece group and 11.6¡¾11.1 Ncm in the 2-piece group.

Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, the following conclusions can be drawn: 1) The axial displacement after cyclic loading occurred in all groups. There was more axial displacement in the 2-piece group than that of the 1-piece group. 2) After the cycles, the RTVs decreased in the 2-piece group and increased in the 1-piece group. It is recommended that the screw loosening is periodically checked and re-tightened to prevent clinical prosthetic failures in the system.
